The Media Services Center exists to facilitate the use of audiovisual technologies for instruction in the classroom. We also provide media support for College events, and groups from outside who rent the College’s facilities.

Media Equipment Scheduling & Support:
Classroom
Use
All classrooms are equipped
with traditional overhead projectors for showing
transparencies. Computer labs have permanently installed LCD data/media projectors. . All classrooms in SAHB and the Pavilions, and some in Muntz, include a computer with DVD drive, VCR and media projector. Other types of media equipment can be provided upon request.
Faculty may schedule any media equipment for classroom
delivery either in person at the Media Support Office in
Muntz 113, by calling the eMedia Communications
department at (513) 745-5717, by fax at (513) 936-7135, or by e-mail
(Please be aware that
equipment for classroom use must be requested directly
by the faculty member; we do not accept requests
from students.)
Please make your requests at least
24 hours in advance. Every effort is made to deliver
and set up equipment in a state of readiness for
use when class begins, with no warm-up time or buttons
to push. Equipment will be retrieved by eMedia personnel
at the end of class. For faculty who are not familiar
with the use of media equipment, brief tutorials
are available on request.
Media equipment available to faculty for classroom
delivery includes:
- audio cassette and CD players
- data/media projectors for laptop computer and video display
- document cameras
- mobile computer/projector systems with internet connection
- portable PA systems
- slide projectors
- VHS camcorders
- VCR and DVD playback
Circulating
(Check-out) Equipment
Some types of media equipment may also be checked
out to faculty for off-campus use. Equipment available includes laptop computers, digital still cameras, data/media projectors, cassette recorders, laser pointers and more. Requests for
checkout of equipment should be made well in advance,
as supplies are limited and requests cannot always
be accommodated. The standard circulation period
is 5 days, with one renewal permitted. Equipment
is picked up and dropped off in the Media Support
Office (Muntz 113).
Special
Events
eMedia Communications also offers media support
and staging for special events on campus, such as
guest lectures and performances, recognition and
graduation ceremonies. Because the logistics of
such events can unexpectedly become quite complicated,
we urge you to involve us at the earliest possible
stage in planning.
Classroom Design and Planning
We provide consultation and recommendations when new or renovated teaching spaces are being planned, including aspects of room design, functionality and media systems.
Distance Learning & Interactive Technologies
A wide array of services supporting distance learning,
andio and video teleconferencing and interactive learning are available
through eMedia Communications. Program materials
for video telecourses are licensed, duplicated,
and distributed to students enrolled in the courses.
Our staff is experienced at licensing, logistical
and technical arrangements for audio teleconferences,
satellite videoconferences and interactive videoconferences.
The Media Production Office can assist with the
preparation of interactive and web-based materials
such as podcasts and streaming audio and video of lectures and
presentations.
Media Recording & Duplication
Faculty may request the recording of programs from
radio and television broadcasts, cable TV and satellite
channels for instructional purposes. Educational
fair-use guidelines exist for instructional use
of such copyrighted material; in addition, some
programs offer additional rights. Our professional
staff can help you determine how such materials
can be used and what the limits are. Facilities
are also available for small-scale duplication of
media items such as audiocassettes, videocassettes,
DVDs and CDs, provided the necessary copyright clearances
have been obtained.
Media Software Collection
The College maintains a varied and growing collection
of audiovisual media resources in open Library stacks
(Muntz 117). These resources are acquired through
the eMedia Communications department, and are jointly
managed by the Library and eMedia personnel. The
collection primarily consists of DVDs and VHS videocassettes.
While most of these materials are only available
for classroom or library use, some items may be
checked out by faculty for home preview or off-campus
instructional use. It is possible to search the
media holdings in the College collection using the
UCLID database in any of the University of Cincinnati
Libraries, or from your home or office by using
a UC network connection to connect to the UCLID web page.
