These pages are designed
to provide information to academic advisors about English placement,
prerequisites, and other general information about
Preparatory English and English Composition.
Quick
List: English Placement at RWC
-
English
placement at RWC consists of a placement essay and the COMPASS
Reading and COMPASS Writing Skills tests.
-
The
English Department no longer accepts ACT scores for English
Placement.
-
All
entering students must have recent (within the last 3 years) English Placement Test Scores to
enroll in Prep or English Composition.
-
Course
eligibility will be checked and students will not be allowed to
remain in courses for which they are ineligible.
-
Once
placed, students must complete each course in the sequence in that
order unless waived by the English Department.
-
All
exceptions must be cleared with the English Department.
Please contact Marlene Miner, Placement Coordinator or Phil Luther,
Dept. Chair.
For
additional information concerning students from other UC colleges or
transfer students from other institutions, use the navigational buttons
on the left to visit other pages.
Quick
List: Exemption, Assessment, and Co-Requisites
-
Currently,
students who wish to be considered for exemption from the English
Composition requirement must take the CLEP test. The
English Department is in the process of devising an alternative
measure.
-
Students
in Preparatory Composition must pass a portfolio assessment (the
Prep Exit Review) to move to English Composition I.
-
The
Exit Exam is no longer given in English Composition III (ENG
103). The department is in the process of developing a new
assessment procedure for the sequence.
-
Students
who completed English 103 prior to spring of 1999 and who have not
passed the Exit Exam should contact Bonnie Johnston in the Writing
Lab.
-
Computer
Awareness is a co-requisite for all students in English Composition
I. Students with computer knowledge may take the
"Challenge Test" to be exempt from the computer skills
portion, but all students must take the library component.
Students will not receive a grade in English 101 until they have
fulfilled this requirement.
