Quilt Barns of Adams County

My wife is a quilter. So when I read an article in the newspaper about barns in Adams County, Ohio that had been decorated with quilt squares, I knew I had a quest on my hands. We've made three trips so far, and as of July (2005), we believe that we've photographed them all. But this is an ongoing project and we are already looking forward to our next visit!

During our most recent visit we met the inspiration and the organization behind the project: Maxine Groves, quilter, and mother of Donna Sue Groves, Southern Field Representative of the Ohio Arts Council. Here Maxine and Donna Sue display Maxine's sampler quilt of the squares used in the Adams County Quilt Sampler Project:

The red dots on the map represent quilt barns, and the blue dots denote roadside attractions of historical or artistic interest. Put your mouse on the dot to see what and where it is, and click on it for a picture. When several dots are side by side, point to the far sides to distinguish them from the center dot.

Since Donna Sue started the Adams County Quilt Sampler Project, (which is now part of The Appalachian Discovery Birding & Heritage Trail), the idea has spread far and wide:

Explore and Enjoy!
