The Computer Science faculty at Raymond Walters College would like your input into our IT curriculum. If you have not heard our name before, Raymond Walters College (RWC) is a regional campus of the University of Cincinnati, centrally located in Blue Ash, Ohio. We offer a variety of technical classes in both the day and the evenings to serve the needs of IT professionals. Our campus is convenient, with ample parking, and our class sizes are small. Our computing facilities are outstanding, offering both Windows and professional level Unix/Linux systems. Our Networking Lab can also double as a 32 node Beowulf cluster for parallel computing.

The Computer Science faculty at RWC have over 30 years combined industry experience as well as 32 years in technical education. We believe this wealth of experience is unparalleled among local area IT educational institutions and is reflected in the classroom.

Object-Oriented Programming I and II
Object-oriented programming techniques, programming design, problem analysis, and basic control and logic structures using VB.Net.

Database Management
Topics include relational database design, entity relationship modeling, the SQL query language and database application design and implementation. Students will use a commercial database management system.

Database Application Programming
Topics include data access APIs and programming, and multi-tiered database architectures.

Introduction to UNIX
Introduction to the UNIX operating system, system commands, and shell programming.

Introduction to Perl Programming
Topics include running and debugging Perl scripts, I/O and flow control, Perl operators and logical statements, variables and variable scope, control structures, strings, arrays and hashes, file handling techniques, and regular expressions.

Introduction to PHP Programming
Topics include program design, variables and operators, control flow, objects, static data structures, and HTML forms. The course emphasizes fundamental software engineering principles and programming skills.

Networking I and II
Topics include network architectures, Ethernet and TCP/IP addressing and transmission protocols, network applications, error detection and correction, routing and network design.

C++ Programming I and II
Topics include (I) program structure, operators, data types, iteration control, conditional statements, I/O streams, arrays, classes, function calls and argument passing; (II) classes, constructors, destructors, inheritance, virtual functions, polymorphism, operator overloading, and templates.

C# Programming I and II
Topics include program design, control flow, procedural abstraction (functions and modularity), static data structures, class definition, and graphical user interfaces.

Java Programming I and II
Topics include (I) object-oriented programming concepts, data types, math operators, iteration control, conditional statements, Java applets, packages and interfaces; (II) fundamental data structures and algorithms, object-oriented modeling and design, GUI development, and event-driven programming.

Advanced Topics in UNIX
Topics include advanced shell programming techniques, regular expressions and pattern matching, advanced searching and filtering using sed and awk, advanced file system utilities, network utilities and kernel utilities.

Advanced Perl Programming
Topics include objects and modules, advanced I/O manipulation, process management, advanced regular expressions, CGI and advanced data structures.

Server-Side Programming
Introduction to data processing on the server to facilitate communication between a client and a server, thus allowing for interactive applications.

Systems Administration
Installation, configuration, and management of operating systems and other system software using Linux. Topics include disk partitioning, file system structure, dynamic libraries, user and group maintenance, printing, security, and other administrative tasks.

Server Administration
Installation, configuration, and management of peer-to-peer and client-server systems. Topics include access control and security, resource management, error and disaster control, server installation and maintenance, security, and operations analysis.

Forthcoming Courses:

Database Administration
Topics will include a review of fundamental database design issues, application monitoring, user management, backup and recovery procedures, security procedures, and storage management.

Network Programming I and II
Topics will include (I) the socket interface, address resolution, byte order, UDP and TCP servers; (II) peer-to-peer, real time, encryption and concurrency issues.

Network Security I and II
Topics will include (I) tools, vulnerabilities, host hardening and wireless; (II) hacking techniques, intrusion detection, vulnerability testing and forensics.

Programming for Mobile Devices
This course will cover the design, implementation and deployment of programs for mobile devices.

XML Application Development
This course will review XML, survey a variety of XML applications, and cover XML programming in Java and .NET.
