Why did you decide to teach at Raymond Walters College?

The opportunity to teach in and develop a professional associates degree in graphic design.

What do you enjoy about teaching?
Watching students develop and mature as both designers and individuals. Many students are tentative and unsure about their decision to enter the design field when they arrive at RWC. During their stay with us, they successfully meet the challenges we present to them. When they graduate, they have confidence in their own abilities and their ability to meet future challenges. It is fascinating to watch this change in their demeanor.

What do you enjoy about Raymond Walters College?
The commitment to the students held by the entire RWC community. Everyone here wants students to work to their full potential and to be properly prepared to meet the challenges of the future. We nudge, cajole, challenge, and work with students to try to make that happen.

What is the most important lesson you’ve learned from your time at Raymond Walters College?
Everyone has a different definition of success. The college experience means different things to different people and it serves a different purpose for different students. Many students want to get a job in their field of study after graduation, but not all. I've learned to work with students to achieve their goal and to open the door for them to the different possibilities that perhaps they had not considered previously.

What is your most memorable RWC moment?
There are too many to pick out the "most" memorable, but I can recount the most recent memorable moment. I was recently visited by a student who started his two years at RWC the same year I did. I was struck by how special he felt his experience at RWC was and how much of an impact my teaching style had made on him. It reminded me of the special trust students place in us and that through our words and deeds we must maintain the integrity of that trust.
