28SPAN102. Beginning Spanish II. 3 ug.cr. For beginning studies: a continuation of the basic elements of the Spanish language needed for communication. The course should be followed by 28SPAN201, 202, 203 to satisfy language requirement. Prereq.: 28SPAN101. Placement Test can be given. BoK:HU,DC.

28SPAN105. Elementary Spanish II. 5 ug.cr. For beginning students with emphasis on listening, speaking, reading, writing, culture. Suc­cessful completion of the three quarters satisfies college language requirement. Prereq.: 28SPAN104. BoK:HU,DC.

28SPAN106. Elementary Spanish III. 5 ug.cr. For beginning students with emphasis on listening, speaking, reading, writing, culture. Suc­cessful completion of the three quarters satisfies college language requirement. Prereq.: 28SPAN105. BoK:HU,DC.

28SPAN121. Spanish for Law Enforcement Personnel I. 2 ug.cr. The first course in a sequence for law enforcement personnel. It is designed to help students develop useful language skills in Spanish that will allow them to deal with basic situations they may encounter in their work duties. The emphasis is on listening comprehension and speaking. Does not fulfill Foreign Language requirement in transfer programs.

28SPAN122. Spanish for Law Enforcement Personnel II. 2 ug.cr. The second course in a sequence for law enforcement personnel. It is designed to help students further develop the language skills they acquired in the first course of this sequence. The language compe­tence gained in this course will allow the students to deal with more complex situations they may encounter in their work duties. The emphasis is on increased listening comprehension and speaking. Does not fulfill Foreign Language requirement in transfer programs. Prereq.: 28SPAN121.

28SPAN150. Spanish for the Health Care Professions. 3 ug.cr. Pro­vides basic knowledge of the Spanish language to students in health care programs and to “non-traditional” students who are working in the area of health care. This course will help students master “need to know” phrases and routines of the health care field in Spanish. Prereq.: 28SPAN102,28SPAN105. Prereq.: 2 years high school Spanish; or Place­ment score above Spanish 102 or 105. BoK:HU,DC.

28SPAN201. Intermediate Spanish I. 3 ug.cr. Practice in speaking and writing the language with review of grammar; reading and discussion of selected texts. Prereq.: 28SPAN103. Prereq.: Or two or more yrs. of high school Spanish. BoK:HU,DC.

28SPAN202. Intermediate Spanish II. 3 ug.cr. Practice in speaking and writing the language with review of grammar; reading and discussion of selected texts. Prereq.: 28SPAN201. BoK:HU,DC.

28SPAN251. Spanish Composition and Conversation I. 3 ug.cr. Grammar review, practice in composition and conversation, culture, and selected readings. Prereq.: 28SPAN104,28SPAN105,28SPAN106. Prereq.: Or 28SPAN201, 202, 203 or three or more years of high school Spanish. BoK:HU,DC.

28SPAN252. Spanish Composition and Conversation II. 3 ug.cr. Grammar review, practice in composition and conversation, culture, and selected readings. Prereq.: 28SPAN251. BoK:HU,DC.

28SPAN253. Spanish Composition and Conversation III. 3 ug.cr. Grammar review, practice in composition and conversation, culture, and selected readings. Prereq.: 28SPAN252. BoK:HU,DC.

28SPAN261. Latin American Culture and Civilization. 3 ug.cr. A two week intensive language, culture and travel program in Costa Rica. This course is designed for Undergraduate students who have completed at least one year of Spanish language study. This elective does not fulfill the FL requirement. Prereq.: 28SPAN103 or equivalent. 28SPAN299. Service Learning in Spanish. 1 ug.cr. Involved in an organized community service project with an academic component. Prereq.: Perm. of instr.

28SPAN301. Advanced Spanish Composition and Conversation I. 3 ug.cr. Advanced study in the Spanish language with emphasis on conversational and written expression. Introduction to selected literary and cultural texts. Prereq.: 28SPAN253 or perm. of instr. BoK:HU,DC.
