Placement Test Requirement
Who should take a placement test?
All students who have had two or more years of a high school foreign language
and wish to continue studying the same language, or those who have previous
knowledge of a foreign language and wish to continue with study in that
language, must take the foreign language placement test prior
to registering for a foreign language class. Computerized placement
exams are available for French, German and Spanish. There is no fee
to take the placement exam.
Students with placement needs in other languages, including languages
not offered by the department, should contact Deborah
Page, Department Head.
Students can contact the placement
testing center (745-5783) to set an appointment for the exam. The
placement test results include the course for which the student should
register.
Credit for prior knowledge
If you take a placement test and "test out" of one or more courses,
you can receive up to 10 credits once you complete the next course with
a grade of "C" or better.
