What if an emergency occurs at home while I'm in class?
In case of an off-campus emergency, a student may be contacted through Student Affairs. The office will locate you on campus in the event of a family crisis or other urgent situation. Call (513)745-5670. If the office is closed or it is after 5:00 p.m., call Security at (513)745-5707.

What if I have to miss class due to an emergency?
If you expect to be absent from class one week or more because of a personal or family crisis or illness, you should contact Student Affairs immediately so that your instructors may be notified. In no way is this exchange of information to be interpreted as an excuse for not completing coursework. It is your responsibility to contact each instructor personally to arrange to make up coursework, or for instructions for withdrawing from the class. Instructors may withdraw students for excessive unexcused absences, or cuts. If you do not contact your instructor, he or she may withdraw you from the class. However, withdrawals initiated by a professor rather than a student can have a detrimental effect on the student's academic record.

You are also responsible for the material presented in class. Arrangements for make-up work and tests are strictly between you and your instructor. At the beginning of the quarter, your instructor will make clear his or her expectations in regard to attendance, work assignments, and make-up work.

Where do I go if I have problems or complaints?
If you have problems or concerns as a student, direct them to Student Affairs, which acts as liaison with the Student Ombuds. Complete information about student grievance policies is in the Appendix at the back of this handbook. Student Affairs receives and appropriately refers all grievances filed.

If I’m returning to college, what happens to any poor grades I might have received in the past?
If you have been readmitted to the university after an absence of three or more years, and would like to give your grade point average a “fresh start,” ask about the Fresh Start Program. Your GPA could be calculated beginning with your re-entry into the university if you meet a number of conditions. For information on how to apply, contact Student Affairs, (513)745-5670.
