BIS2 Disk Prep

Follow these steps to get the data files you need for the quarter. If you are using floppy disks for data storage this quarter, follow the Floppy Disk Instructions below. If you are using a large-capacity storage device, such as a Zip disk or JumpDrive, for data storage this quarter, f follow the Large-capacity Storage Device Instructions below.

Note: These instructions assume you are working in an RWC lab. If you are working at home, you can go to the publisher's web site to download the files. If you decide to download the files from the web site, make sure you read the information carefully, and that you download the files for the correct book.

Floppy Disk Instructions

  1. Make sure you have several formatted, high-density data disks. If you don't know how to format a disk, please take a look at the Windows section of your lab book or use the online help system available within Windows to learn how to format a disk.

  2. Label your disks to reflect the data each disk will contain.

    • First, make sure your name is included on the disk label.

    • If you are copying the Excel files, label your disk Excel.

    • If you are copying an Access file, label your disk with a name that reflects either the Access file name or the assignment name/number.

  3. Insert one of your disks in drive A.

  4. Open My Computer.

  5. Open drive W: (this is the drive that begins with Dept on Rwc-apps).

  6. Open the Faculty folder.

  7. Open the Cheatham folder.

  8. Open the Exploring MS Office XP folder. Copy the folders/files you need to the appropriate disk. Please make sure to copy each folder to a separate disk; otherwise, you'll run out of disk space! Note: To copy a folder or file, just right-click the folder or file, choose the Send To option, and choose 3½ Floppy (A).

    • If you are working on an Excel assignment, copy the Exploring Excel folder to your Excel disk.

    • If you are working on an Access assignment, copy the files you need from the Exploring Access folder to your disk. Note: The entire folder is too big to fit on one floppy disk; you'll probably want to get each file individually as you need it. The files you need are identified with each assignment.

If you lose a disk or if one of your disks becomes damaged during the quarter, just follow the steps above to copy the files again.

Large-capacity Storage Device Instructions

  1. Insert your storage device in the Zip drive or USB port.

  2. Open My Computer.

  3. Open drive W: (this is the drive that begins with Dept on Rwc-apps).

  4. Open the Faculty folder.

  5. Open the Cheatham folder.

  6. Open the Exploring MS Office XP folder. Copy the folders or files you need to your storage device.

    • If you are working on an Excel assignment, copy the Exploring Excel folder to your Excel disk.

    • If you are working on an Access assignment, copy the Exploring Access folder to your disk.

If you lose your disk or if it becomes damaged during the quarter, just follow the steps above to copy the files again.
