Costa Rica is located in the Central American isthmus, bordered by Panama to the south and Nicaragua to the north. One of the most developed countries in Latin America, Costa Rica has long been famous for its tradition of peaceful democracy.
Costa Ricans also enjoy the highest standard of living in Central America, a 95% literacy rate, and the greatest overall advancement in the social and economic spheres. For this reason, it is an ideal location for language and culture study.
Intercultura, the base for the Raymond Walters College Costa Rican study abroad program, is located in the colonial city of Heredia, approximately 20 minutes by bus from the capital city of San Jose. Originally it was known as the city of flowers. The tranquility and natural beauty of the mountains is only a few minutes away.
Applicants must be students in good standing and must enroll for the three credit hour course for participation in the program. In addition, students should be in good physical health and capable of substantial walking (several hours) in the course of a day. Enrollment is limited to a maximum of 15 students.
